Code of Conduct

Showdown Poker League was established to promote the game of Texas Hold 'em Poker. As a no-stakes, points-only game, there is no cost for any player to sit at a table. Dealers are volunteers who work for tips only, and players are encouraged to tip dealers. The top priority of our league is to keep the game fun for our players. We want everyone to equate "Showdown Poker" with a good time, and, as a result, we expect all members to protect the interests of the league as a whole by both encouraging good table etiquette and rules adherence. Players should bring their concerns about possible inappropriate behavior to the attention of the Dealer, or league owner. Players in violation of the acts mentioned below are subject to warnings and/or temporary or permanent ban from playing at Showdown Poker League events.

  • All hosting venue "house" rules regarding conduct will be respected during play and supersede any potentially conflicting Showdown Poker League rule. It is the player's responsibility to become familiar with these rules.

  • No wagering of any kind is permitted while participating in any Showdown Poker League game.

  • No cash on the table once the game has started.

  • No smoking, vaping, or tobacco use is allowed at the table.

  • No use of electronic devices while a player is involved in a hand.

  • Verbal abuse, offensive language or inappropriate actions from one player to another, to a dealer, venue staff, or venue patrons are prohibited. At dealer discretion, after a warning has been issued, offenders can be suspended from play and forfeiting their blinds during the current blind level. Subsequent actions can result in expulsion from that day’s games to being banned from Showdown Poker League games. Re-entry by an offending player is solely at the discretion of league ownership.

  • Excessive arguments are prohibited. Players are allowed to question the actions of dealers and other players; however, once a dealer or league owner makes a ruling, that ruling is final.

  • The "move on" rule is in effect for all games. The "move on" rule means if a player suspects a dealer or another player has made a mistake, they must make the dealer aware of the error before cards are removed from the board. Once the dealer removes the cards from the board, the hand is complete, and no resulting action or penalty can happen.
     

  • Showdown Poker League is a "show one, show all" league.  At hand's end, all players have a right to see any mucked cards intentionally shown from one player to another at any point during the hand.

  • While in a hand, a player intentionally revealing a card or cards to another player, in the hand or not, is prohibited. A first-time offense will receive a warning, and, if the action occurs a 2nd time in the same game, a player can be penalized by having to sit out the remainder of the current blind level. If the action occurs for a 3rd time in the same game, the player can be eliminated from that game.

  • Two or more players openly agreeing to "check down" when a 3rd player is "all-in" is prohibited. The remaining players can "check" individually, but they cannot agree to both "check down" the hand.
     

  • The "move on" rule is in effect for all games. The "move on" rule means if a player suspects a dealer or another player has made a mistake, they must make the dealer aware of the error before cards are removed from the board. Once the dealer removes the cards from the board, the hand is complete, and no resulting action or penalty can happen.
     

  • The play clock does not stop unless a dealer or Tournament Director decides to do so and informs all players the clock is paused.
