The Full Story

Showdown Poker League started in 2019 with a simple idea: poker is a lot more fun when everybody at the table feels welcome.

Somewhere along the way, the game got intimidating. Bright lights, big money, mirrored sunglasses, guys throwing around words like "range", “suck out” and "river rat" while you're still trying to decide to check, bet, or bluff! If you've ever wanted to learn Texas Hold'em but figured you'd get eaten alive — or lose a paycheck finding out — we built this league for you.

We run friendly, organized single table tournaments at neighborhood bars and restaurants. Same rules the pros use. Same rush when you shove all-in and get called. Just none of the pressure — and none of the price tag.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

The seat and chips cost you nothing. No buy-in. No membership. No cash on the table. However, our dealers do work for tips only. Show up, grab a chair, order a burger (you get bonus points for eating!) and a beer if you want one, and play real tournament poker. That's the whole deal.

So, what does it cost?

Just what you'd tip anywhere else you get great service. Our dealers work for tips only — most players hand them $5 for each game (most venues play up to three games for that session) — and that's it. Good luck going to a movie, ballgame, or concert for $10 or $15! No rake, no fees, no fine print. It's the cheapest poker entertainment experience you'll ever have, and the folks dealing the cards are the reason.

Beginners don't just survive here. They win.

Some of our regulars had never played a hand of live poker before their first Showdown Poker League experience. Now they're chasing seats in our Main Event Tournaments which happen every three months. Because nobody's money is on the line, this is genuinely the best room in town to learn in — you can try a bluff, misread a board, or ask what the small blind is without it costing you anything but a little pride.

Our dealers and tournament directors are happy to walk you through the basics: hand rankings, blinds, betting, table etiquette. Ask anything. Everybody at that table was new once.

You're playing for something.

Every game you play can earn you points on the Showdown Poker League Leaderboard. Points are accumulated over the three-month season, and the top 24 players earn their way into our Main Event Tournament. You don't have to win on night one. You just have to keep showing up and playing — and that's the fun part.

It's a night out, not just a card game.

Great food, cold drinks, and a room full of laughing, groaning, trash-talking regulars who will absolutely remember the hand you misplayed three weeks ago. The poker is the excuse. The people are the reason folks keep coming back.

How it works

1. Find a game. Our Locations venue and start times are right on the home page.

2. Show up a few minutes early and get a 1,000-chip bonus! Say hi, grab an open seat, and let us know it's your first time so we can get you set up.

3. Play tournament style No Limit Texas Hold'em. Everyone starts with the same chip stack of 10,500 (plus that 1,000 chip bonus for early birds) and an even shot.

4. Please tip your dealer. $5 for this much entertainment is a huge value, and it's how our dealers get paid.

5. Climb the leaderboard. Earn league points for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, track your standing on the website, and add points to your total to qualify as one of the top 24 players.

No buy-in. No commitment. No experience necessary. Whether you've been playing since high school or you had to Google "does a flush beat a straight" on the way to the table — we'll welcome you, and we hope you'll bring a friend!
